What's in the Name?
As its name might suggest, this Wake County town was actually formed in 1963 by the combination of two separate towns: Fuquay Springs and Varina.
Fuquay-Varina History and Recent Growth
The community has seen fairly regular growth during its history, primarily because of its tobacco trade and agriculture early on. However, in later decades, the community’s real estate development and proximity to Research Triangle Park helped it to continue to grow.
Today, this 12.2-square-mile community still honors a lot of its history with such historical sites as Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Clubhouse, Jones-Jonson-Ballentine Historic Distrct and Wayland H. and Mamie Burt Stevens House.
Local Parks and Outdoor Activities
This community also has a great deal of modern innovation all around town as well. For instance, there are a number of high quality industries here as well as some modern-day parks, including:
- Fuquay Mineral Spring Park, which offers picnic tables, a restored spring house and a memorial brick path.
- South Park, which includes a concession/scorekeeper building, scorekeeper booth, two baseball fields, one multi-purpose field, two soccer fields and a multi-purpose area.
- Falcon Park, which includes a youth baseball/softball field, picnic shelter, playground, charcoal grill area, concession stand, sand volleyball court and a gymnasium.
